Self care ritual -it’s okay to take care of ourselves and give ourselves treats
I’m a big advocate of self care and I’m a big advocate of a lot of things that you will see here on my blogs a lot. We all live in super busy lives with school, homework, internships, work and family. It is easy for us to forget to take care of ourselves and our needs and instead, take care of others first.
When we do that, we will slowly accumulating stress and we will not feel good about ourselves and can then experience burn out. We may lash out to our friends, coworkers and loved ones.
It is okay to take care of ourselves and do something we love or something that make us feel good. It does not have to be big brand name gifts or extravagant trips or a gourmet sushi dinner (although that would be wonderful if you can afford it).
And yes, I know it is easier saying than done. My recommendation is to start with something very small and try to make it a ritual.
My self care ritual is to drink a few cups of fresh brewed green tea first thing in the morning while looking at the sun from my window. Also, doing yoga or any type of exercise/body movement and make a nutritious breakfast/brunch really helps me. During the day, I go for a mindful walk and at the end of night, I take a long bath with Epsom bath salt and do an oil massage after. And of course, I’m a big anime fan and will cry during a few heartfelt episodes of anime and get inspired.
There will be days that you cannot do your self care rituals and it is also okay. We do what we can do with the circumstances we are in. Just don’t forget to take care of yourself and breathe, especially if it has been a while since you last did so.
Find one thing you can do for self care today and treat yourself!
